Alibaba Group

Alibaba Group (Chinese: 阿里巴巴; pinyin: ā lǐ bā bā) is a privately owned Hangzhou-based family of Internet-based businesses that include business-to-business trade, online retail, a payment platform, business management software and regionalized classified listings. Founded by Ma Yun (Jack Ma) in 1999, it operates five e-commerce sub-companies which operate different aspects of trading, including business-to-business trade, retail, payment, business management software and classified listings.

The five core companies are:

* Alibaba.com (SEHK: 1688) - Publicly traded company in business-to-business e-commerce marketplace
* Taobao.com - online retail marketplace
* Alipay - third-party online payment platform,
* Alisoft - Internet-based business management solutions
* Yahoo! Koubei - Chinese regionalized classified listing website

According to iResearch, it was the largest online B2B company in China in 2006 based on the number of registered users and market share in China by revenue.
